I put up brand new 6' shade extensions on the the 100yd and 500yd range and pistol range a few months ago. Already got holes in them on the pistol and 100yd range. Those angles and that's how bullets leave properties. Totally inexcusable.
Anyone that has worked a public range has seen that and knows how those holes get there- Ignorance of basic sight picture and sight alignment. I thought I had left a high stress job behind pre-retirement when I became a RSO at a public indoor range. The range was very well designed and maintained, but the average clientele was... Well, it was... I'm sure you know. Anyway, one day I'm in the range watching lanes and giving assistance to new customers when all of a sudden, a bunch of lights go out, and fluorescent fixtures come crashing down in the shooting lanes. I look over two stations and there's a pair of #1 males with a rented Hi-Point 9mm carbine pointed upward at a 45-degree angle. It wasn't the first time I had seen someone set up in that position thinking that some miracle was going to put a bullet in their target. I'm screaming cease fire! and go over, grab the gun in the guy's hands and force it down on the counter while still hollering cease fire! I look at the guy and it's obvious someone let a guy in that was completely stoned- WTF!? I tell them both they have to leave, and they beat feet while I was securing the weapon. They couldn't retrieve their ID's without turning in the weapon, so ownership came back to get the story, and they dealt with it as they saw fit. Not my job, my job was maintaining safety.
Just one of many stories... When I moved here, I applied for a job at a LGS/range requesting gun counter sales. Because I was honest about my resume, I got placed in you know where to my disappointment. Didn't last long...
