Saw this online. Major General John Raaen is his name.

odds are he was a 1st Lieutenant at time. at D-Day they had a life expectance of about 32 seconds after the landing craft dropped the gate. intense machine gun fire cut them to ribbons and if they survived that the first step off the ramp in a lot of cases in deeper water than a man can swim in with a 90lb pack on his back. Thanks but no thanks I like my ship just fine!

Looks like a corp of engineer officer from the picture, they survived a bit longer due to being in second assault wave, although it looks like he also had infantry and ordinance lapel insigna in the case, so he could have been anywhere on Tuesday June 6... still like my nice little ship
