I went to renew my CCP at the Durham courthouse. Everything went smoothly and at the end the lady behind the desk said, "This will take a few months." I said "I know. 90 days, right?" She said "No, I mean many months, but your currant license will be good until you get your new one." I didn't ask why, just smiled and said OK.

Ashe county is easy and painless as well. My last time around I got a hard plastic CHP permit to carry in my wallet instead of the paper one. I ask the person handling it when that started and she said not to long ago. I ask why and she said she heard that there was talk about putting a picture on them in the future

This is a direct reflection on the travesty of leaving these administrative proceedings to the discretion of the counties. I have lived in three counties in NC and the renewal processes are so obviously biased by the Sheriff or other politician’s leanings.
This should be handled by the state level and should be uniform.

Ironically, we have a Democrat Sheriff here in Wilson Co., yet our CHP process runs very smoothly.

Let's compare NC to SC. Last year I learned my SC CCP had expired 45 days prior. My fault. So I called the listed SC CCP number and explained my self-inflicted wound. My question: "are you going to make me go through the whole process once again? Her response: "No; just go to the renewal portal and request a renewal of your permit. Until you get your new CCP card, your old one is still good." Me: Even if my old one is expired? Her response: yep. Nothing in the SC law says you can't renew and expired permit. " And that's what happened. About 45 days later I got a new permit. And the cost? Nothing. I love SC.
