Triple Target Range in Sophia, just south of High Point. Nice place. Pistol, rifle, skeet and archery.

I go there about every month or so. It is nice. They are doing a lot of work on the place, additions. The only drawback is the road into the place. Kind of rough. But, Good people and fair price. I like it.

Nice sporting clay range, too
Have you ever been there?

I looked at their website, but I'd like a first hand review!

Edit: I just found their price list.....OUCH!

Maybe this seems reasonable if have nowhere else to shoot, but I can buy a (90) count box of clays at Walmart for $10.

Also I'm not really a fan of the "Two Shells" only rule, but I get it, I guess. My 20GA holds four+one, but I want to buy an extension tube so I have to reload even less.

And all you get for your 10.00 is a box of sub standard quality clays. No machine to throw them, no special presentations, no clubhouse, no trappers, just poor quality clays. And the fastest way to be asked to leave is to load more than 2 shells. Why would you need more than 2 shells to shoot at only 2 birds?? Unsafe and unnecessary.....
On YOUR land, do as YOU please, but on someone else's land, do as they say do.....

Um....OK

Since I have a machine to throw them, $10 is all I need to shoot clays. As for sub standard quality clays, I don't know what that means. I loaded em, throw 'em, and shoot 'em. What else is there? Not sure how having more that two shells loaded is unsafe unless you mean it's due to transport between stations. The reason I mentioned wanting more than two shells is not because I want multiple shots at one bird, it's because I hate reloading the damn gun 50 times. Mine holds five, and if I could get an extension tube for it that held more, I'd have one. Of course I'll play by their rules, but not EVER having done this before, I'm just trying to understand them.

The wife wants to do it, so I'm going to try and set something up in the next few upcoming weeks.

The two shell rule is for safety. When you are on a trap range you are standing in a horizontal line shooting one after another. Some shooters are safe and skilled. Others may not even know what end of the barrel the shot comes out. Often enough, several have to be reminded to keep muzzles down range and not in the crook of their arms which points the barrel at the head of the shooter to the left when it is not their turn to fire. You load just before you call the birds. It's about safety.

Your machine will do good to get a bird to 20 mph whereas a Beomat can't throw below about 30 to 40 mph. The difference in clay birds is in the quality, roundness and consistency of the material. Now if you're throwing White Flyers then your good but otherwise (Federal) their junk.
As stated, a violation of the 2 shell rule will get you "asked" to leave faster than a fart at the dinner table. It's the rule at every club I haver shot at and that's a LOT..
If we weren't so far away (Kannapolis/Wilson) we'd meet up and shoot a couple of rounds.....

Like I said, this is all new to me, but I'm learning. I am throwing White Flyers since they are the most affordable at $10 per 90 round box. My machine's spring tension can be adjusted to throw them farther/faster, but at my current skill level, it works just fine.

I've been there twice. It's a very challenging course, well maintained. Last went in 2019, pre Chynah virus lol. It's more expensive than Deep River sporting clays which is also nice.

Both have the two shell rule. Makes sense since there are a good number of first timers.

Hi all.
Been going to Gryphon Group shooting range. They are located next to the Laurinburg/Maxton Airport, about 30mi SW of Fayetteville/Ft. Bragg (Being renamed to Fort Liberty this year)
The company is a military/LEO training facility for many years and opened their ranges in summer of 2022 to the public.
https://www.ravenadvisory.com/shootingclub
It's mentioned 7 days a week, but it's actually Tue-Sun, 10am-6pm.

I made it to Panther Top near Murphy today. Morning shooting had the sun coming at me and baking the shooting bench. I plan on another trip this week but it’ll be afternoon.

In all the years I have shot skeet and trap...and particularly trap, there is a rhythm on the line; and, if you want to run 25 straight, breaking that rhythm throws a lot of shooters off...not to mention the safety hazard of a group of shotgunners shifting from station to station. It only takes one person with no muzzle awareness to ruin your shooting day, even with the two-shell rule. There are a lot of 'em out there on public ranges who are just cluelessly careless.

FYI, since my post I've been to Drake's Landing twice. It's not like a typical trap, or skeet setup. They call it 'sporting clays' in which the birds come from any and all directions and speeds. The different stations are setup like a golf course in which you drive a golf cart between the stations, which are in and out of a wooded area. For a novice like myself, it's quite a challenge, but still lots of fun.

They have 13 unique stations with a platform from which you shoot. Each platform only has enough room for two people, being the shooter and the person that 'pulls' the clays via an electronic box. At each station each shooter gets four clays. I see nothing magically safer about loading two, shooting two, loading two more, shooting two more versus simply loading four, and shooting four. No real danger as long as the shooter loads his shells 'at the rail' and empties the gun before leaving the rail. The barrel is always pointed downrange the whole time the shooter is at the rail whether loading or shooting. We never leave the rail with a loaded gun when proceeding to the next station. I recently bought an O/U so I guess that will force me to comply with the 2-shot rule.

Went to Palmetto State Armory's new location in Myrtle Beach a couple of days ago. They have 35 lanes of indoor shooting available.

The rate is $10.00 for 30 mins and $8.00 for 2nd person.

The staff was pleasant and helpful. IT WAS COLD IN THAT RANGE! Dress accordingly.

It looked like they also had lanes available for rifles, but we were only shooting handguns.

BTW, if you go, don't have any preloaded magazines, you'll be required to go out any empty them (manually) :)

Hi All!

looking for range in Western NC, preferably Boone area, that goes out to 300 or more yds. Looking to work on the Sharps at longer distances.

thanks!
Western North Carolina is not anywhere near Boone.:cool: I live in Murphy, NC 5 minutes from Georgia and 11 minutes from TN. It doesn't get further west in NC than where I am.

It's a universal rule at ALL sporting ranges. Maybe organized ranges aren't for you.....
